Our company will be purchasing an Epson 9800. We're being told that the
Efi Colorproof XF is a superior product compared to ColorBurst X- Proof
rip software. Does anyone on the list have experience with both that
they might offer an opinion?
We also currently use a DTP41 with Monaco Profiler to create our
Profiles. We are now being recommended to use a SpectroScan Table with a
Spectrolino. This is being recommended as it is the only device that
actually stops and presses against the target delivering unmatched
profiles.
Can anyone on the list verify any of this, or offer a better solution?
Thanks in advance,
-Dave
We have a spectroscan table, as well as 3 ICColors. I have found that
my ICColors work as well as the spectroscan, and does the same chart in
12 minutes as opposed to 2+ hours. I have heard that the DTP70 is
supposed to be really fast, but it would not work with our media, due to
thickness issues.
As for RIPs, we use the Wasatch softrip - we have found it to be
superior for our application, with an archival color flow. If you are
going to use a rendering intent like perceptual or relative, the RIP
will have lots of interesting effects if the color engine is
nonstandard. Wasatch has worked with us to provide a product that is
very easy to use in a full-bore manufacturing environment (and they are
still working on new feature requests -- the mark of a great vendor).
As for printers, we use the HP5500UV. I run mine (7, currently) up to
18 hours a day. I have only had 1 break for a hardware related issue,
and that was resolved the next day in less than 3 minutes. We have had
a bug that no other users have run into (probably due to the high usage
rate), but HP has worked with us to solve this. We really didn't get
any offer of help from Epson, when we started this business. We are
dumping our Epson head printers (built by Mutoh) in March, when we plan
to have all our business migrated to the HPs. The 9800 wasn't around
when we evaluated printers, but since Epson didn't seem interested in
working with us, we didn't go back to evaluate new printers.
