Sounds suspiciously like a full/half duplex mismatch between you and
your switch. Usually with a duplex mismatch you'll see a huge
difference between a push vs. a pull across a network. Try setting
your switch ports from auto-negotiate and forcing it to either full
or half (full duplex preferred) and then doing the same on the two
workstations in question. On the Mac, you simply go into your Network
prefs, choose Ethernet and set the config from Automatically to
Manual and then make the duplex change. On the PC it's similar, you
just have to get into the NIC properties and force the duplex
setting. In my experience, it's usually a switch issue where the auto-
negotiate simply fails to set things correctly. If you can't change
the switch port settings, then you simply have to go through a trial/
error thing by trying different duplex settings, perform a transfer
test until you hit on the right settings. Another tip would be to go
to the switch and see if it has the ability to indicate the speed/
duplex setting via different LED colors. This could point you in a
direction and indicate whether there's a mismatch or not.
Just a thought.
