Personally we prefer to run with greater accuracy here and have
never sent a proof to a client where the maximum exceeded 3 dE (I
don't want a client to be able to *see* a difference).
When you say the maximum never exceeds 3 dE, you mean no SINGLE patch
from the Fogra test strip ever exceeds 3 dE? That's pretty good if
that's the case (hats off!). When I was quoting "1 dE", that's an
average taken over an entire ECI2002 or IT8.7/4 testchart.
I just want to add that ECI created an additional measurement criteria
for the last DigitalProof Forum.
Changes in hue are far more important than changes in chroma
and luminance. The regular reference for proof verification
is based on Delta E. ECI (together with BVDM organizer of
this European Proofing Shoot out) measured all proofs on
differences in hue. On their web site you can find
additional information in English. www.eci.org
There is far more info on that subject available on the
web site of the University of Wuppertal.
It's, however, all in German.
I have been told that the most important parts
will be made available in English for the coming
Digital Proofing Forum 2006 event on September 21 and 22.
