I've been following aspects of this discussion around the web, but have not yet seen a clear explanation of what Apple changed in the ColorSync workflow and what Adobe's now-failed workaround was. Does someone (Bruce, Chris, or Andrew, perhaps) have to complete lowdown on this?
Ian Lyons suggests a workaround without back-versioning at <http://www.computer-darkroom.com/pwp_901/pwp_901_1.htm>, but since you're still left with an arbitrary choice on what the best rendering intent for the proofing preset is, it sounds as though it's not a given that the result would be identical to a printout from PS 9.0.
I've also seen conflicting reports as to whether only OS 10.4.6 installations are affected.
