I'm not sure what drives the 5500 these days, but you may want to consider a whole new rig. I'd see if you can budget for an Epson 4800 and either a ColorBurst RIP or a GMG RIP, depending on your requirements. It may be useful to check with your printer and see what they suggest. The ColorBurst RIP is perfectly capable of creating contract quality proofs (you would have to install OS X on your eMac), but the GMG RIP is also very solid and more feature-rich (but only runs on Windows machines). With the new Epson 4800 you will find wider support for various 3rd party RIP's, so it is well worth considering retiring the 5500.

Hope this helps.

Greetings, all!

I have inherited responsibility for color proofing a catalog at the

company I work for. We have been using Best Designer Edition 2.0.3

running on an eMac/700 with OS 10.2.8, (running BDE on Classic

9.2.2), all this driving an Epson 5500, all over the Ethernet...

something went totally haywire, and I have been trying various

profiles, but have not been getting the results we used to get from

that proofer.

My boss has authorized me to replace the software. I could use

recommendations, first of all, then coaching in how to get the

profiles that will give me a proof my printer (Dingley, in Maine)

will accept. I am leaning towards Harlequin software, but am open. I

also need to get this all up and running in pretty short order,

Thanks,
