Hi,
Printing with a stochastic/fm screen eliminates the need for dot proofs since that screening method eliminates the screening, or subject induced moiré, that the dot proof is used to check for.

Gentlemen,
I am new to the forum and now have the perfect opportunity to make my
first post. We have some clients that still demand to see dot proofs
simply for moire purposes. I am in the West Michigan area and office
furniture is king. All you need do is look at a some of the office
chairs manufactured with the fine mesh backing to understand that moire
is a very serious concern around here. ( Not to mention the myriad of
other fabrics used in cubicle and chair production!) That being said...
digital matchprints produced on a Creo/Kodak Spectrum have an almost
mythical status in these parts. I recently have switched companies from
one that supplied Matchprints to one that is Epson/GMG driven. Our
proof to press match is hands down superior to what we had
previously.... but the "dotsters" are still avoiding giving us some of
their work because of moire concerns. We do use the dotproof
function... but as anyone who has used it can tell you, those fuzzy
little clusters will hardly satisfy a dot purists needs. I am a big fan
of inkjets, they have come a long way in the past 10 years. But I still
agree that their are certain industries
( furniture, fabric, vertical blinds ) where it still makes sense for
a dot to have its day.
