The profiles have a sizable amount of "secret sauce" due to the fact you need to use special Scanvec software to produce a profile that will leverage the Lc, Lm, O & G channels while using ColorChoice. Basically not totally ICC compliant.

that depends a bit on how color was sent to the old RIP.

In theory a new color-managed RIP should match the old color managed RIP with no need for fancy conversions. In reality the old RIP probably wasn't doing what you wanted and the new RIP... remains to be seen. But we're all hopeful for you.

The simplest method is to send a profiling target through the old RIP in the same color model as you sent your files. So if you sent RGB files to the RIP then profile it as an RGB device.

If you then ASSIGN the resulting RGB profile to the file in question, it should appear in Photoshop on screen in much the same way that it printed. Then you should be able to send the RGB file to the new RIP (with it set to respect & use the embedded profile) and it will convert to the new space and output OK for you.

It's a bit of a hack but we've used it a fair number of times when dealing with legacy images. The trick is to think of which color space the legacy file is in. In the above example, in relation to the old RIP, the file would have been in "old RIP RGB". Then you just make yourself a profile to describe the legacy system and assign it to the file....

Steve
