Personally, I don't see what advantages you would gain by first converting
to RGB. When converting from any space to CMYK the conversion always go
through Lab by definition, in the ICC paradigm. So, my understanding is that
if you convert to RGB first and then to CMYK you'll effectively have
suffered two conversions. One from Lab to RGB and a second from RGB to Lab
and Lab to CMYK; there is no direct connect from RGB to CMYK.
