I must make an embarrassing admission. I discovered after hours of tinkering that the Artisan was reverting (not sure why) to an old profile with a gamma of 1.8. The Cinema Display was profiled at 2.2. Photoshop was correcting for the change in gamma between displays, hence the darkening and lightening as I slid the image back and forth. Now I am applying the profile through System Preferences rather than by launching the Artisan software.
