Hi,
http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2005/qa1430.html
explains that for untagged image data "Generic RGB" is assumed. In my
testings I found this not to be true. The OS X Preview, Safari and the
desktop seems to display untagged image data "raw". This means RGB
values are sent straight through to the display. This has the same
effect like an application which would not honor the monitor profile
at all. In an application like Preview which honors the monitor
profile this effect is achieved when the monitor profile is assigned
to the untagged data. So the information on this site seems false.
Please correct me if my observations are wrong. I didn't found a place
in OS X (Tiger) where Generic RGB is assumed for untagged data. BTW, I
think it's a good decision _not_ to assume Generic RGB, but to assign
the monitor profile to untagged data. Just the documentation here is
false.
Looking forward your comments
Peter
