"glossy" displays

Does anyone know anything about Apple's new "glossy" displays for laptops, from a color POV?

I've seen them on Windows laptops for a while. I thought they looked great, at least indoors and where the lighting is reasonably controlled.

As a geek, I also would like to know something about the tech difference between these displays and more conventional LCD displays. I wasn't able to uncover anything on the web.
