Below from Larry Spevak of ColorBurst Systems. He asked if I wouldn't
mind forwarding this to the list to clear up any confusion.

Begin forwarded message:
Regarding ColorBurst's requirement for a UV Cut Filter. All of our
Lin files and Profiles are made with a UV Cut DTP70. Until recently,
all of our media Profiles were built using a Chroma Linearization.
The UV Cut filter is used because in the event that a media had any
UV response, during Linearization, the Yellow would reverse between
Paper White and the 5% to 10% patches. The Paper White would have a
Blue Chroma, then at 5% Yellow, the a Chroma is near 0 and at 10% and
beyond, there's a Yellow Chroma. If there's no UV filter, the
resulting Profile does have problems in the highlights.
Therefore, if you are relinearizing a stock ColorBurst Profile, we
recommend a UV Cut device. If the media, such as the Epson Proofing
Stocks, has no UV response, you can probably relin without a UV Cut
and everything will be fine.
If you are making a new media Profile from scratch and the paper has
no UV response, a UV Cut device is not required.
In late Dec. to early Jan., we will be releasing Rev. 4.2 of
ColorBurst for the MAC. Rev. 4.2 now allows the choice of Chroma or
LAB based Linearization. All new ColorBurst Profiles, that we make,
are being made with the LAB Lin method. The Chroma method is still
available, as a choice and to support existing Profiles.
We added LAB Lin due to a third party Fine Art paper, that when
Profiled w/ Chroma, showed a magenta cast in the highlights of a gray
ramp and it was not an issue of a UV response. After adding the LAB
Lin method, the same media's Profile produced neutral grays.
LAB Lin may minimize the need for relin with a UV Cut device. We
intend to test this.
Though, please note, existing ColorBurst Profiles can not be changed
from Chroma to LAB Lin. Using LAB Lin requires a new Profile from
scratch.
Regarding the the software UV correction in Profile Maker (PM) for
building Profiles without a UV filter. Since our Chroma Lin takes
place prior to Profiling, the reversing problem, as mentioned above,
will still exist. In addition, the PM Profile does not correct the UV
in Colorimetric renderings. Their software only eliminates UV for
Perceptual rendering.
