Title: Subject: Re: Fiery RIP
Hi,
I posted similar instructions on the ColorSync list some years ago, so if you search the archives you should find it.
In order to print CMYK patches for profiling on a Fiery and assure that you have disabled the Output profile, you need to do one of two things:
1. In the ColorWise settings, set CMYK Simulation: None. This will turn off all color management except calibration.
or
2. In the ColorWise settings, set CMYK Simulation: ColorWise Off. This will turn off all color management and bypass calibration.
I am sorry that the graphical UI makes this so confusing.
NOTE 1: In both cases if you have used the Color Editor tool to create custom curves for the Output profile, these curves will be applied, so make sure that the output profile does not have any custom curves.
NOTE 2: Since most color laser engines can actually be damaged by trying to put too much toner on a page, most Fierys also have a “toner limiting” feature which cannot be turned off. Typically you will see that very dark patches (above ~280% coverage) will be impacted by this limit.

David Macy

Got to love a fiery. (Enter sarcastic face here). I’ve got seven in house
and have never gotten a definitive answer for that. From what I’ve been led
to believe (and if anyone else has different information – PLEASE speak up!)
no matter what you do that output profile is going to be applied. But what I
always do is take all the settings back to the default – you don’t have to
do that – but at least go back to the factory profile. Then under cmyk
simulation pick none. Then when you send your cmyk target you are at least
making sure that you are doing as little damage as possible!
I’ve also heard rumors that sending it from photoshop with colormanagement
off (not using printers) settings helped – but still if you went into the
ppd there was no way there either to completely rid it of an output profile
– so I’m not sure that worked. I’ve since turned to the first solution I
suggested.

Subject: Fiery RIP
Hello all,
I am sure that this has been discussed before, but I need to get
some clarification. I am trying to send some color patches through
the Fiery RIP (via Canon ColorWise) in order to create some custom
profiles for different specific medias. The problem I am having is
the last step in the expert color setting flow chart, which is
bypassing all output profiles. My choices are 1: Use Media Defined
Profile, 2: Use Server's Default (which is Canon imagePRESS C1 Plain
(H) v1.icc) or 3: Use Output Profile (Drop down list from which to
choose). Is there a way to bypass all output profiles / color
management in order to get untainted color patches? Any info would be
appreciated. Thanks.
