Yes, I do wonder how well the standard US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 profile
defines the white point of a typical paper substrate used for that process.
I read that it was created by measuring patches from a laminated proof
(Matchprint perhaps?), not from an actual printed sheet.
So, yes, we may very likely be simulating the white point imperfectly that
way. The ideal would be to use a profile built from the actual press, or at
least one that is based on measurements taken from a sample produced using a
proven standard, like GRACoL intends to become.
