There's already a product like that. It's called GMG FlexProof.
You can actually scan a bit stock (corrugated cardboard or
newsprint for example) and use that to simulate the texture of the
stock.
that was what I was thinking about. Didn't know it was available
already.
It's been around for a couple of years I think. Mike Eddington also
mentioned the Noise/Intensity settings that are available with all
versions of GMG.
Not really necessary with newsprint as you can purchase proofing
media that is newsprint coated for inkjet proofing.
I know, but did you ever try it? What were your experiences?
Yes, I've used the GMG Newsprint media and works real well. Only
thing to watch is ink load. For that reason, it works best using CMYK
only (no light inks) and using the Matte Black ink with Epson printers.
There are even companies that offer inkjet coatings for any press
stock for proofing direct on the press stock.
Didn't know that. Could be useful. How well does that work?
I have no idea, I only know that there is at least one start-up
company (converter?) that offers this service. But if you look
around, you can generally find several inkjet papers that are
probably a very good match to your press stock.
