This is something we've been waiting for here for a while...makes remote
proofing soooooo much easier. I also saw it at GMG's booth at Graph Expo
and was very impressed. Delta E was dialed in to an impressive average
delta E of .30, and max 0.90. You can't get much better than that, but I
was skeptical on how difficult the target data was...newsprint would be
pretty simple, but the target data had a minimum L* value of 4ish, so
I'm convinced it was challenging data.
The only drawback I can see with this printer is the thermal print
heads. If this was an Epson with piezo print heads, we'd already have
one (boss has a grudge against HP inkjets). That and since it's a
pigment ink printer, I'd like to know how often the thing is going to
clog. And yeah, with GMG you can automatically calibrate the printer,
remotely or otherwise...also very cool was proof verification with GMG
Proof Control. Time will tell on its performance, but the concept
certainly raises the bar.
