Conflict Catcher will not find the problem. When some application
uses the serial
port it gets blockt for all other use until that application shuts down.
It might be the configuration of either DialAssist or TCpack for AOL

Thank's Robin,
Got it!! In Extensions Manager, I disabled DialAssist, Infrared,
MacLink
Plus, WebSharing and TCPack for AOL. I was loosing my marble.
Thank's again
for your encouragements. I don't quite know which exact
ControlPanels or
Extensions were the culprits (problably MacLink?) but I'll figure
it out
later. On to some useful color work for now...
This portable uses one physical port for both serial lines. The
problem may be that some software is running that has already locked
the port for its usage, perhaps a bit of modem software? Sometimes
using the Extensions Manager to disable Fax and Modem software may be
the key. Remember that you have to reboot after disabling the
extensions to have the changes take effect.
