Hi Marco,

Yes. That is a real issue. The presence of OB in proofing papers can simply
be avoided by using relatively OB-free proofing paper -- apparently, that's
a more widespread practice in Europe than here, in North-America. But press
papers being full of FWA that's not as easy to work around. Still, I'm not
prepared to just throw a UV-filter at the problem. Hope Karl has a solution.
Oops! I was almost going to forget that, there is a solution at hand: the
friendly Spectrocam. It is, to my knowledge, the only 45/0 instrument that
does not use a tungsten light source in measurements. So much so that, in
the presence of heavy-duty FWAs in a substrate, its reporting should be much
closer to the viewing environment (D50-type) under which the color match
will be judged than reporting off tungsten-based instruments.
As a matter of fact, I can remember the profiling nightmare I was having
with the HP ProofingMatte and gloss papers coming out the HP 20ps a few
years ago while sticking with tungsten-based spectros. The moment I switched
to the Spectrocam for measurements, boy, that made a heck of an improvement.
That's probably not what Karl has in mind ... but, hey, all ideas are
welcome ;-)
