Keep the answers coming.
My initial review will consist of downloading, installing over the
release candidate on my Mac (10.4.x) (hope I don't hit problems),
adding whatever settings are recommended by people reading this, and
printing profile charts- I specifically want to see if the driver can
survive "out of the box" use by someone who is NOT a rocket scientist.
I believe that for open source to succeed software must obey the
prevalent standards of usability in addition to providing good
functionality.
A pointer to the developers - I believe RIPs usually have a way of
ingesting linearisation readings and adjusting ink curves and ink
limitation settings - this makes life with color management on random
media MUCH easier.
Note that in RGB mode the release candidate driver survived the review
process quite well, so please don't accuse me of scheduling a military
tribunal for open source crimes ;)

Hi Edmund
I have been using the "Release candidate" (beta?) software for Gutenprint
v5.0 .0.RC3 and now have V5.0 which I have only briefly played with. I have
profiled my Epson and a few others. You will need to use the settings to
get the IT8 Or ECI chart as close as possible for Grey Balance and gradation
before profiling. There are many adjustments possible in the rc3 version,
don.t know about v5.00, I assume so. I use CMYK, Color Precision and Print
Quality set to Best; Ink Type "6 color photo"; Image Type "Photograph". I
had a heavy Cyan cast, so adjusted Cyan Density to 0.70. Black Ink is also
very heavy, so adjusted this to 0.70. Color Correction is set to
"Uncorrected". There is also a "Raw" setting. However I believe this may
give over-inking, etc. I believe the other settings are for folks not using
Colour Management. Perhaps Robert from Gimp can add to this.
Good Luck

It's time for me to look at the Gutenprint CMYK mode.
Could the owners of this driver please tell me what setting I should
be using to profile it ?
