Title: Acrobat 7 not using profiles in printing!
It seems to be so that Acrobat 7 Professional does not take use of any profiles, when printing CMYK data without embedded profile in the file!

Since I discovered this to be true when printing from Acrobat Pro 7.05 on a Win XP to HP Laserjet 5550dtn (which I had made a profile for), I then tried the same test in a different environment: Win XP / Acrobat Pro 7.07 and printing to Xerox XP12 using the Xerox's profile in Acrobat (and choosing "None" as the CMYK Simulation Profile in the RIP). The same thing happens. An even with a Mac OS 10.4 / Acrobat Pro 7.08 using the same Xerox XP12!

The result is the same with any profile or with CMS off (by choosing "Same As Source / No Color Management" in the Print / Advanced -dialogue). The profiles only have effect on color, if a CMYK profile is included in the PDF. If not, the conversion is just not happening - at all. Even including "Output intent profile" to the file is not making a difference. Neither is checking "Apply Output Preview Settings". This is Crazy! Can anybody confirm that this is happening elsewhere too? And please don't say how it should work, unless you are able to test it first.

I understand that the idea is, that if the file does not include a profile for CMYK data, the Working Space choice for CMYK should step in and act as the source while the printer profile chosen in the Print / Advanced dialogue should serve as the destination. In Acrobat Pro 6, there is a dedicated check box for that: "Apply Working Spaces".

And I should add that my example files turned out just fine with Acrobat 6 Professional. There I get the exact same colors with a PDF without profiles, and with a PDF with included profile.

I also tried to make the untagged (or unprofiled) PDF from InDesign using both the new way and the old way: Exporting an Printing to PS-file / Distilling. No effect on the problem.

My Color Settings in Acrobat Preferences were "Europe General Purpose 2" and I was using PDF 1.3 and 1.4 files.

I'm looking forward to hearing some comments, or even better, test results or solutions from anybody who understands what I'm talking about.

Thanks,

Miika
