Thank you, Marco, for once again keeping me in line.
I will accept that it is "metamerism failure" that I was referring to, but
not color inconstancy.
Two samples (proof and press sheet) match in Booth A, they are a metameric
pair, the metamerism gods smiled upon us ;)
The same two samples no longer match in Booth B, they are not a metameric
pair under that illumination, we have metamerism failure :(
I agree that metamerism is what makes off press proofing possible. Pigments
or dyes used in the proofing systems can be used to create a match to press
sheets from litho flexo gravure processes, likely using different pigments,
in a D50 light booth. This match can fail if a different light source is
used for viewing. The presence of FWAs in one or both samples can exacerbate
the failure based on changes in the invisible UV part of the spectrum.
