I concede that matching the level of FWA in the proofing paper to the press
paper is a better strategy. But for a printer that runs various grades of
coated papers (#5, #3), all with their unique levels of FWAs, applying this
strategy would entail changing proofing papers all the time. How practical
is that?
What are the alternatives though ? - there aren't any, if your aim
is to provide a match that works under a wide variety of lighting conditions.
You may object to the difficulty, but the choice is up to you as to whether
you worry about this, or ignore it.
You could direct blame at paper manufacturers, for not making proofing
paper that matches press paper, but I would guess that they are mostly
unaware of this issue.
