Let's keep in perspective that metamerism is mostly a product of industrial
revolution, which arise out of mass use of synthetic dyes and pigments. In
nature, there are very few known metamers, according to the scientific
litterature.
It's entirely the product of human beings - we defined what a metamer is,
and we create them, either by manufacture, or selection.
To say that there are few metamers in nature, is simply pointing
out that selecting two colors that match from colors in the real world,
is hard work (the colors aren't organized into catalogues), whereas we
have developed systems to manufacture endless numbers of them.
