I put up a review of Gutenprint some time ago on my blog
http://monitor-calibration.net . Gutenprint well with profiles, the
results are good, indeed in some ways supeior to those obtained
with the native Epson drivers; however the interface is confusing.
Maybe users expressing their bewilderment will motivate the authors
to get the interface cleaned up so that Gutenprint acquires the
userbase this excellent program deserves.
First, to answer Rainer's question: set Color Correction to
Uncorrected.
Secondly, we'd welcome any specific suggestions about how to clean the
interface up (even better would be suggestions accompanied by code).
We don't have any UI experts on the team. PPD-file based interfaces
make it hard to organize the options since there's no way to
selectively hide options, but we're certainly open to any suggestions.
