RE: X-Rite vs Getag License
RE: X-Rite vs Getag License
I personally believe that the better monitors from Eizo and the new NEC
2690WUXi deserve the best calibration and software available. There is no
reason to cheap out on the software when the internal LUT building
functions critically improve with better software.
As you are probably well aware, there are some very complicated issues with
flat panel displays, including:
lack of native linearity
lack of black point opacity
lack of white point agreement between displays
and one that we can not help: viewing angle issues
In many regards flat panel calibration requires a significant technology
investment to get it right. I have no problems with explaining to a
potential customer that he/she can do an 80 to 90 percent calibration and
profile with little investment or a best quality calibration and profile
with minimal investment per workstation. That puts the decision squarely on
the end-user's shoulders.

Given the slow penetration of color management into every graphics
designer, print shop, and photographer, why wouldn't the manufactures of
this equipment want as many people as possible exposed to this
technology? I believe that this would increase the demand for their
product.
What are your thoughts?
