Personally, I have found the latest generation of Apple Cinema Display LCD
monitors lacking in certain respects. Mainly, the problem is a lack of
uniformity (sometimes pronounced) across the viewable area.
Besides, I have encountered a troubling number of ACDs that exhibited what
in CRTs would be called "burn-in", but in LCDs has not yet been given a
proper recognized name. Basically, these displays that I saw had visible
"ghosts" of images that had been displayed for a few hours, and those
"ghosts would not go away even after days.
One company that I work for was so peeved and disturbed by several
recurrences of this problem that they switched to a whole new set of Dell
LCDs (UltraSharp 2407WFP). I find these to be surprisingly good, actually,
though they have issues of their own mainly related to certain viewing
angles, which, to be fair, can be reasonably lived with once the user gets
familiar with them. But the Dells are a good deal for the money -- though I
would not advise them for high-end work, since they (and the ACDs too) are
in no way comparable to the far higher quality of a Quato Intelli Proof or
an Eizo ColorEdge.
