I'm profiling a large format inkjet printer using PM 5.0 and this
printer suffers from the "black peppering" problem: the saturated dark
colors have a lot of grain. AFAIK, this problem is solved using the
"black width" control. I also printed the "TAC" target from
Hutchcolor
and discovered that the maximum black is almost the same if I
reduce the
maximum K from 100 to 75% with high CMY values. As I know the deepest
black isn't reduced so much with lowering the "maximum K" to 75%, I'm
planning to reduce both "maximum black" and "black width" to deal with
the black peppering problem. I'm afraid in loosing too much gamut in
dark yellows (browns) and other important dark colors.
I'm using a low CGR (CGR1), black start at 40% and I'm limiting the
ink
(each channel) in the RIP.
What's the best approach to deal with my scenario ?
Using UCR instead of GCR solved this problem for me.
