Now I've looked into the samples Apple provides and found that nearly half

It's not just the AppleScripts that are failing - sips isn't working properly either :-(

I've just reported Bug ID# 5633670: SIPS cannot match images with any intent other than "relative"

After suggesting that Ken use sips rather than AppleScript to solve his file conversion needs I did some RGB to CMYK conversions and got identical results no matter what rendering intent I specified.

Maybe Mr Gnaegy would care to comment on this?

I did mention that a lot of the published scripts on the Apple site didn't work back in 2005... Interestingly Chris Page from AppleScript Engineering has made a request for comments on AppleScript issues on their list. Perhaps John can also have a chat with him about the undocumented and unpublicised losses of scripting features from every app related to ColorSync?
