I dug up this post from Sept of 2006 about the stability of this paper and
was wondering if anyone, including Martin who posted about his problems with
it, had any recent experience with it. We are considering using it with
Epson 4800/4880 (K3 inks) printers and EFI rips for contract proofing and
would of course not want to deal with some the some of the problems
described below. Did EFI or their paper supplier ever fix this problem? Is
it working for anyone with this combination of printers and inks?

I never received any rolls of the reportedly "improved" version of this paper to test.

We spent our time recalibrating our system to run with GMG Semi Matte instead and have used it ever since.

I had 2 rolls of the EFI paper left on the shelf until a couple of weeks back when a client wanted some cheap proofs done on "any old stock".

It reminded me what a sensible choice I made ditching that paper.

The surface is unstable and easily damaged even as the proofs drop from the 9600 on to other proofs in the collection bag. 120 A3 proofs later the whole room was covered in "EFI dandruff" because the surface coating turns to powder when guillotined. The stuff gets everywhere - including under the glass cover inside the Eye-One Pro...

The GMG paper is superior and their quality control is good too -- we have never once had to reject a roll because of the production faults that we sometimes see in EFI or Epson papers.
