I hope there is someone here that can help me to understand a strange
behaviour I cannot explain.
I have an Ibook G4 connected to an external (very old) CRT Philips
display and I calibrated internal LCD and external CRT using Spyder2Pro.
Giving a look inside the ColorSync Utility I can see that the CRT
Display has a wider gamut compared to the internal LCD except for the
deep blue.
As far as I know, a photo taken into the Adobe RGB colorspace should
be fitted into my display colorspaces using perceptual intent so a
deep blue sky should be represented less deeper on CRT than on LCD.
So far so good and everything works like expected (please correct me
if I miss something): if I move the entire image from the LCD monitor
to the other one I can see a changes in blues . But here is the
problem: If I open my deep blue image inside Preview, and I keep the
windows across the two monitors with the first 2/3 of the window on
the internal LCD and the remaining 1/3 of the window on the external
CRT, the CMM system apply on the entire window the color profile
selected for the monitor in which the most part of the window is
displayed (in this case LCD monitor). Curiously in this situation
deep blues on the internal LCD and external CRT matches perfectly and
this means, I suppose, that the CRT monitor is able to display so
deeper blues. If this is correct I cannot understand what's wrong
with calibration and why my ICC profile doesn't match real
capabilities of my monitor.
Can you please help me to explain this issue?
Regards,
Andrea
