This leads me to wonder if there is dye in it as was the case with the similar dmax of the Epson 10K. Whatever it does have in there it appears from Wilhelm's data that it is certainly stable enough. I find the "neutral" black workflow of the 3100 on matte paper to be quite cool or Photorag. Too cool for me, but nothing that a little cyan put into the mix couldn't cure.

That is something I have not tested yet, and intend to do soon, meaning,
determining how dark the blacks are in a B&W image (made with blacks only,
without the addition of any chromatic inks) on a semi-glossy or glossy
substrate printed with the HP Z-3100.
My ideal aim would be to match the black value of L* 4 that I am able to hit
on Epson Premium Luster paper using an Epson 4800 in Advanced B&W mode.
For my own B&W work, I would consider quite disappointing a deepest-black
value that reaches no lower than L* 15.
But we'll see.
