Having a printer that is faster than the 9800 without the horrible wasteful and dreadful switching and purging between MK and PK each time I want to print on the fiber gloss papers, no mindless dumping of ink into the waste tank every day due to head clogging with cotton papers, with the same gamut but with twice the longevity of the 9800, no sad looking gloss differential on glossy media that makes me have to spray my prints with expensive toxic sprays that take up even more time , a comple quad carbon monochrome inkset within the same printer, add to that 2 grand worth of free profiling equipment that can be done right from your monitor in 20 minutes... now that is WAY beyond Epson. Will Epson catch up? Maybe. They certainly aren't there now, nor is Canon. I know, I have a house full of Epsons and I use them all every day because until now that is all that there was ....

Well said Robert! HP's profiles aren't great but profiles made by software that utilizes the on-board spectro (like GMG) can be. Epson will replace the 7800 and 9800 for new printers incorporating the 3800's improvements and introduce a 60" version. When they do so (probably at PMA) I suspect Epson will maintain their dominance among fine art printers and photographers while HP will remain a strong favorite in prepress and signage markets. I wish Epson could just improve their paper handling...

-Concerns about long term accuracy and functionality of incorporating the spectro with the print head.
Semi-advanced users who don't currently make their own profiles might like the perceived "ease of use" of this
product. Its our feeling more advanced users will still greatly prefer the control over making, and analyzing their
own profiles on any materials they may choose
to print on.
