I took the plunge and purchased an Canon IPF8000 printer last month and
was wondering if anyone out there has worked with one yet. I have tried profiling the device via different methods. I first profiled it via the Canon GARO driver and using the TC9.18 RGB Target and ProfileMaker 5.0.8. Results good except the reds were to orange.
I then broke out my collection of RIPS. I have EFI ColorProof XF 3.0SP3,
and ColorGate Production Server, there latest version. Results are all over the place. I am having trouble even finding out from both EFI and Colorgate which is the best way to handle this printer. I am sure the same thing is true for the new HP printers. How to deal with the three extra colors, red, green, and blue. When using both rips, I linearized the printer then I use the eci2002 target / Profilemaker for profiling. EFI produced very nice reds but bad greens, and Colorgate produced a nice print, but a little flat. Checking how my printer profiles are working I did a synthetic test using Gretags original color checker chart to see if I could reproduce the 24 patches with a Delta E < 5 I was successful with EFI except the Foliage patch was Delta E >12 and all the other colors were good, using ColorGate, all colors were good < 5 Delta E except the Black Patch >11 Delta E, I guess the reason why my prints look flat out of ColorGate.
Any ideas on what is the best way to handle these new "12 color"
printers?
Thanks
