A customer of mine is (finally!!) retiring his Epson 7000 from
"proofing" work, (switched to a 4000), so wants to keep it as an
imposition proofer only (content only, no need for precise color).
Among other things, he will start having his cartridges refilled with
cheap ink. Which is not readily available (here) in light colors, only
in CMYK. Which makes sense for imposition proofing.
So question is, how to drive the Epson 7000 in CMYK only mode (no light colors)?
- will it be able to actually print with empty 'light' cartridges, or
will it complain and not print?
- is his current BestColor 4.6.3 able to drive it in CMYK only mode?
- is there any cheap Rip that will do so?
thanks in advance for any suggestions!!
Gimp-Print/Gutenprint can do this (Gutenprint is simply the new
version of what used to be Gimp-Print). You can select an Ink Type of
4 color photo, which will print in CMYK.
I doubt the printer will print with an empty light cartridge, but you
could always partially fill it with dark ink.
