Another question that pops to mind is: was the ink actually from the OEM or
from a third party?
I ask that because:
(a) I have never -- so far -- experienced such a dramatic color shift in my
Epson 2200 after changing a cartridge;
(b) a third-party ink will almost certainly be off somewhat when compared to
those from the OEM. Not to mention that the third-party ink may mix for a
while with that from the OEM, creating an unprofilable "bastard mix" until
the lines are thoroughly flushed.
I asked my bud Mac Holbert of Nash Editions his experiences and he wrote back:
Andrew,
This is definitely not our experience but I'm not running 7 printers. The two we do use have proved to be extremely
accurate. We have printed several thousand prints on each over the almost 2 years we've had them. Perhaps environmental conditions, temperature/humidity shifts? third party inks? third party paper? counterfeit inks? Simply changing cartridges should have no impact on consistency. It really sounds like a lack of ink consistency. That's not a problem I've ever experienced with genuine Epson ink. Epson is maniacal about quality control and my own experience is that their inks are very consistent cartridge to cartridge.
Best,
Mac
