Ray - what we saw before was the limited technology driving the work flow -
The reason why we had all the middlemen in the work flow was just to make it
happen.
Our aim now which we have to all focus on is "that when ever
anyone in the workflow sees colour it should be the correct colour as it is
going to end up" so there are no surprises.
With the timescales we have to work to it it ludicrus for clients to start
challenging colour at virtually pont of press. As printers it causes chaos with
our scheduling and turns jobs into our emergencies through no fault of our own -
with a huge hidden cost and a dissatisfied client. That is why it is vital that
we proof to the same standard and our presses match our proofs - If we expect
our clients to proof to their clients then this has to happen - Until this
happens I cannot see softproofing working.
The big issue now is training/awareness right through the workflow - from
phtographers , agencies and printers (pressmen) In the UK in the next few month
I hope to start the process of putting together a practical Colour
Management training/awareness programme for the print industry -
Peter Arnel
and a happy new year to you
