Actually it's relatively easy to make an Epson match a contract proof to a
tiny deltaE. We do it all the time.

So do we :-)

But we've got different RIPs, spectros and software to help us achieve this. I don't see many people making that kind of investment.

And what about halftone previews, sharpening and adjusting the UCR/ GCR
to stop minor colour balance problems turning your dead neutral black
and white images sepia?

UCR/GCR specified by profile supplied. No issues. Sharpening? Easy, the
photographer used PhotoKit Sharpener and only needed to select the print
type (press). No issues with neutrals.

So you'd use ISO Web Coated for 4 colour black and white images in European magazines would you?

And I suppose this PhotoKit Sharpener can magically sharpen an image so that it can be reproduced at any size from 25% to 150% of the original?

I'm talking about the real world here. Ad deadlines worldwide, purchased at the 11th hour. What do we do, call the photographer every time the image gets scaled or we receive another set of print specifications?
