Hello Lee

I still do not see a kind of standard behaviour of device link profiles,
just by "linking" two ICC device profiles. During the ICC device link
creation the rendering intent is specified, in addition, vendor specific
options are available to maintain the black channel and to add UCR or
GCR to the resulting separations. Adding UCR is required in case the
total ink coverage of the source colourspace is higher than the
destination.
So, linking two device profiles into a device link will improve the
quality, but depending on the used vendor specific technologies the
resulting device link ICC profile can be quite unpredictable. A good
tool to visually check the transformation quality is the GMG SmoothCheck
image, which is available upon request. The major DLP advantage is the
equal transformation and predictable result even by using different
CMM's. This is not the case by using device profiles (Input/output
profiles that pass through the profile connection space).
Since GMG's ColorServer can create rgb-cmyk separation device link
profiles, as well as CMYK-CMYK device link profiles, we can ensure
nearly the same visual results in different printing conditions by
considering the source separation as well as the target printing
conditions. This technique is widely used in Europe to convert CMYK
data, i.e. made up for Gravure, to Offset printing conditions, by
maintaining the visual impression of printed result.
Also important for GMG users: Profiles can be easily created or
modified, no matter if RGB separation or CMYK-CMYK conversion. It is
also possible to import ICC device link profiles (or device ICC) to
convert them to GMG device link profiles, including all editing options
of our profile editor.

asking?
There are various profiles available, always with a specific source and
target colourspace. For Example ISOcoated to ISOwebcoated (on basis of
the FOGRA characterization data sets). As mentioned, on basis of the GMG
technology.
