Hi Edmund,
Isn't the point to not make it look good but instead to reflect what
your output will look like so you can take whatever steps possible to
make it look as good as possible once it's printed.

I only do photo (rgb) but I can see the points of view. On the one

Which in practice means keeping track of how it's set - added
complexity - and it always looks bad whatever you do. Not wrong, just
bad. If you lock the system down in closed-circle at least you cannot
make any mistakes. And it might actually look better. Did I say that
in photo retouching I have never seen a PS preview (with an inkjet
printer profile) that I actually felt good looking at ?

Uh, Mike's got the right idea and strangely enough I agree with
Andrew.
Just kidding. :)
It will take a little more effort to carefully edit the A2B table
instead
of sledge hammering color adjustments with CN's post controls which of
course totally invalidate any ICC profile you just created.
Of course it could be simply not assigning the correct source
profile of
actual print conditions and using the proofer's profile as a soft
proof in
Photoshop. Sometimes it's the simple things we overlook along the
way. . .
