This is a good description of my feeling, when doing inkjet printing.
It's somehow an implementation issue.

One thing which might be nice is being able to remove white screen
frames and window borders and make the palettes paper-matched gray. Or
transparent palettes, would be better. Anything to remove yet another
white reference from the equation (room white, viewing light white,
monitor native white, paper white)

It seems to me you don't trust Photoshop's softproofing capabilities, more than the very idea of softproofing. Am I reading you correctly? >
