Hello Stephen, Clemens, Benedikt,

I'm on a Mac and have much experience building and using profiles on my old Epson 3000 and an EyeOne Spectro with Match software. Printing these images from Photoshop, I use the same workflow as always. No likely problem there.

BUT, here's a wrinkle that I did not have enough experience with this printer to consider.

I also purchased the ColorBurst X-Proof RIP (not the one that would have come with the printer) and initially printed some standard images from it using the Premium Luster Photo paper supplied as samples. The first images I tested were not printed through Epson's driver, rather through ColorBurst. They printed satisfactorily, even when I chose to print to the Epson budget Glossy Photo Paper using the Premium Glossy Media setting. What I did NOT do was print images to the Luster stock from Photoshop using Epson's driver. When I did this (AFTER my initial post), I found that the print was also too dark.

Summary: I can print satisfactorily from ColorBurst RIP but not from Photoshop using Epson's driver. Prints to the SP3800 from Photoshop are too dark. The paper is not the issue.

Incidentally, we bought the RIP to be able to print Postscript files (legacy Quark XPress with eps placements mainly) and I had hoped to simplify the networking aspects of using the new printer by incorporating a server. Unfortunately, as stated, I did not print to the 3800 first using Epson's drivers so I don't know if the ColorBurst installation had anything to do with it (although I suspect the problem rests with this configuration somehow).

Thanks,
Dale Hoffman
