Andrew,
When you nail the color of one patch on the Macbeth, do all other colors
produce accurate color values? If not, is this an accurate rendering?
No they don't; I strive for the 'least innaccurate' rendering I can achieve!
(Lowest average delta E with no colors out by more than twice the average.)
I agree with most of what you are saying - I don't think custom camera
profiles are desirable either. I like the ACR approach. But I certainly
don't want a camera/software that produces the Velvia look (unless it can be
easily turned off permanently) just because some think it looks 'fantastic'
(using the word in it's original meaning!!).
