It doesn't need to be. Lacking more knowledge of the causes for now, and
having established a successful workaround, you could *turn off* your
printer in the Printer Setup Utility after you have made print no. 2, then
delete the document from that stopped printer's list, after which you turn
it on again, then send print number 4. This way there's no wasted paper or
ink. Until you figure out what's really causing the trouble, that is.
By the way, I would try to audit the settings used in the Print dialog box
for each of these prints. There is likely to be something somewhere that is
not set up properly.
Also, I would suggest...system maintenance! Use an application like Onyx or
Cocktail to clean up your system (permissions, reprebinding, cache files,
crons, etc.). Sometimes that alone works wonders.
