Just a small correction...
Open EXR is a product of the work of ILM. I believe that Florian Kainz
was awarded a mention (i.e. a technical oscar) from the Motion Picture
Arts and Sciences Academy (i.e. the Oscars...) for his work. While
Pixar does some wonderful things, I think they would acknowledge Florian
and ILM as the promoters and inventors of this fine technology. Another
aspect of Open EXR is CTL, the color transform language, which allows
for specification of color transformations based upon a program
description rather than a profile description. This allows for a very
wide range of non proprietary and potentially unambiguous transforms in
a C like programming language. Florian and the team at ILM should be
applauded for this work. So too should the lawyers for the corporation
which actually developed a mechanism for source code distribution of
this technology.
