Having said that is there anything wrong with using PhotoShop to pull the
black channel out of an ICC profile and use that for grayscale and spot
color proofing in PhotoShop and other applications? Or do you need something
more sophisticated like what is discussed below?
-> Wouldn't the K channel depend on your CMYK (GCR) definition ? And thus
not be a true grayscale as opposed to the RGB formula for luminance
(30%,60%,10%) ? L* would also be a light K in my understanding.

-> I personally use it as a "traditionnal" profile. What it does is scale L*
from medium white to medium black (with BPC) so that overall contrast is
properly rendered. I still use one of the past versions of Create-ICC, the
one with the kTRC. So PCS to device is kTRC, but device to PCS is RGB (need
to check if LUT). It was adapted to be all RGB to perform in Qimage, but
overall the principle is the same ; Roy correct me if wrong. This droplet is
a brillant piece for B&W printing, I do have a enthusiastic match
