A good workaround that works well, in my opinion, is to save the settings
just before opening the Raw file into Photoshop, then press the Option key
(on a Mac) and open a copy.
This way (a) you don't overwrite anything in the original Raw file, and (b)
if you need to do some additional Raw rendering work, you can always go back
to where you left off by simply reloading the settings you had saved before
opening the copy.
