Shouldn't the PhaserMatch calibration then bring the printer back
in line to
within a close match of the Lab target values of the printed chart?
And thus all 3 should color match since all 3 are being calibrated
to the
same Lab target values?
No, this is just getting things stable for this particular printer.
Basically
linearization and a litte grey balancing
But by examining the exported PhaserMatch measurements I can see that
numerically the DeltaEs of each printer are far off from each other
Which is obviouse. You are looking at the readings of the uncalibrated
engine, not at the calibrated one.
Profiling (once in theory, but depends on your quality requirements)
- printers differ. So there has to be a way to get them into the same
gamut.
- PhaserMatch provides some simple mechanism to create profiles,
Actually - PhaserMatch only provides a way to create Device Link
Profiles
from standard Phaser or Third Party generated profiles.
PhaserMatch 3 included a way to create profiles using an IT/8 and a
scanner.
This did not really work as advertised. I was not aware that Xerox
took this
out. So yes, PhaserMatch 4 does not have this ability.
- PhaserMatch uses a kind of device link profiles, which need to be
generated for each printer separately:
+ linearise your printers
Right - see my comments above. Not so sure I am trusting the
linerization/calibration capabilities of the PhaserMatch software -
and thus
not sure about the resulting profiles & device link profiles that
come in
the following steps
To my experience it works
+ Profile your printers (Phaser1.icc, Phaser2.icc etc)
+ Select your simulation profile (like SWOP, ISOcoated v2)
+ Create the device link profiles for each printer for this
simulation
(like SWOP_Phaser1, SWOP_Phaser2 etc.)
+ Download these Profiles to the printer's memory
There are some things to pay attention to when printing:
+ Image Quality
- Print Quality: be sure to use Photo only. Other settings produce
reduced quality
- Color Correction: none
Alternatively
use Automatic and switch off all color correction in "Automatic
Color Setup"
(6 items)
- More Options: all set to 0, you might want to try to activate
"Apply to CMYK", too
but I am not sure if it changes things here
+ Paper Feed Options
- Paper Types: should match your paper closely. Should be same for
all
(linearization, target print, profile processing in PhaserMatch,
production prints)
- Printing Optimization: Optimize for Speed
Unfortunately I don't have access to a Phaser 7760 right now so this
is what I recall
from memory. I won't be back in office until mid of July, so if you
don't get things up
and running I will give it a try then.
