3000:1 is probably the ideal contrast ratio if it were in a black
box. But it could be totally misleading because we don't know what
the conditions are for determining that contrast ratio.
But a truly bright display is useful if the retouching environment is
very bright because then the black point of the display is higher due
to reflection. So effective contrast is clobbered. The way around it,
is to increase the brightness at the other end to get the necessary
contrast ratio.
