Because I always use Perceptual for images but relCol for vector content.

That's an InDesign "rule", Rich. I didn't make this rule. Adobe decided when
AiCS came out to encapsulate the Ai content into a PDF wrapper. And, as you
know, it's not possible to place Ai files without this PDF wrapper anymore,
in later versionsof InDesign.

I guess because, unlike Photoshop, Illustrator support "multiple" color
spaces. So, in my view, Adobe chose to support Ai content the same as PDF
content to make their lives easier -- and more logical.
