Brian,
Another variable - many/most projectors also have several color modes,
accessed from the projectors controller, such as Standard, sRGB, Dynamic,
and so on. Usually one of these will be recommended in the instructions for
accurate color, so I always choose this before making a profile. If other
people use the projector, you may have to recheck that this setting is still
correct before using it a second time with a previously-made profile.
Also is the lamp in High or Economy setting? Some/most projectors only give
accurate color when the lamp is in High setting, and you need to have the
same setting as when you made the profile.

Subject: Projector Profiles
I think there has already been some discussion about the Eye-One and its
beamer/projector capabilities (I must admit I never tried the technique
described by the person using the i1 Display). If I may offer a few points
to people interested in doing this. Most digital projectors will download a
generic profile into your colorsync folder that will be used by default.
These profiles are often not very satisfying, no fault of the manufacturer,
it is just impossible to take into consideration all the factors that will
go into creating color for a digital projector (i.e. The color of the screen
or wall you are projecting onto, the video card in the computer, the ambient
light conditions in the room). The specific profile you can create with the
Eye-One will almost always be more satisfying than the generic profiles
because all of these factors will be taken into account. To get the best
results I would recommend setting the ambient lighting conditions as low as
is practicable, this will allow you to achieve maximum saturation from the
projector and the best possible gamut. When the ambient light is too high
things will look washed out just like not running enough ink on a proofer
or press. There is some advantage to be gained by reading the screen from a
modest distance with the Eye-One, mainly the ambient lighting effects
experienced by your audience will be captured in the profile.
